"...everyone should have a Nantucket...""I believe that everyone should have a Nantucket."
Nantucket is not just a “pretty face”. There are an array of activities to suit both young and old. Nantucket is home to countless beaches, some of the most popular being Surfside, Nobadeer, 'Sconset, Jetties and Coatue. Jetties Beach is a “sound side” beach and the water is typically as calm as a lake and good for young children. There is also a water sports area at Jetties where you can rent windsurfers, sailboats and kayaks. If you are a bit more adventurous and enjoy the waves, Surfside and Nobadeer are for you. There is much adventure on Nantucket! For those of you who enjoy “4 wheeling”, you can rent a Jeep or bring your own SUV to drive across the sandy beaches out to Coatue. Even if you aren’t a “beach” person, you can’t miss the beaches of Nantucket. Pick up a sandwich at “Something Natural’ and get out there! The scenery itself is worth the trip. If you are worn out from the beach, rent a bike or bring your own and take your own bike tour of the island. The island has miles of bike paths, designated specifically for bikers and completely separate from the road. If the weather isn’t cooperating, take a tour of the Nantucket Whaling Museum and learn about the islands' rich whaling history that inspired the book, “Moby Dick”. Main Street in Nantucket town is a short walk from the ferry dock and has some of the best and most unique shopping in the world. Even the walk up and down the streets of town on the beautiful brick sidewalks next to the cobblestone streets is worthy of your time. Enjoy a stop for an unforgettable lunch at “The Brotherhood of Thieves” to rest your feet during your shopping excursion. After a long day, it is always nice to get back to your cottage and make a nice fresh Nantucket lobster dinner with produce from Barlett’s Farm, but you simply cannot miss the Nantucket restaurant scene. Be sure to visit “The Lobster Trap”, “The Summer House” in 'Sconset, and “Arno’s” on Main Street. If you are in the mood for quick, easy take out, grab a pizza from “Steamboat Wharf Pizza” and head out to Mataket to watch the sunset. Lastly, you simply must not miss the ice cream at “The Juice Bar”. |
